New Year's Veggie Soup
A big pot of nourishing vegetable soup is my favorite new year's tradition, plus a new workshop for people who want to make sustainable changes in their eating habits without strict dieting in 2024.
Happy (almost) New Year!
I wanted to pop into your inbox today to remind you that while January 1st can mark a fresh start, it does not have to represent a giant sweeping change in all areas, especially your eating habits.
In fact, it's been shown over and over again that small habit tweaks over time yield better results than a January 1st "I'm never eating bread again"-style resolution.
This time of year, two things are true:
January 1st isn't a magical threshold for transformation.
True, it's a symbolic start, but remember, any day is ripe for positive change. In the heart of winter, our bodies often crave warmth and comfort, not necessarily raw salads and cold smoothies. If we want to live with the cycles and seasons of nature, the middle of winter is not an ideal season for drastic dietary overhauls. And...We're all feeling a bit overindulged from the holiday season.
The sugar and festivities were wonderful, but now it's time to gently shift our focus.
Instead of a massive overhaul, I suggest starting the New Year by incorporating more whole foods into your meals. It's not about enormous change overnight; it's about adding in nourishing foods that make you feel good.
For me, that's a New Year's Day Veggie Soup. I've been making a big pot of vegetable soup on New Year's Day every year for the last few years, and it's become one of my favorite traditions.
10-Veggie Soup is my favorite, but this recipe is flexible, and I always say 7-Veggie Soup is just as nourishing as 10-Veggie Soup. Only add in what sounds good to you! Make what your body craves and budget allows.
