It’s funny for me to see what’s trending in the online world of wellness because most things really are just trends.
Keto was so huge, now most “experts” are warning against it because you can lose too much muscle (and your hair falls out, and, it’s just too darn hard to stick to).
Paleo was “the only way!” for a while, but most people had too many “cheat days” and thus weren’t really paleo at all… and that wild-caught salmon, organic fresh blueberries, beef tallow, paleo-branded cereal, and packaged snacks added up to $500 grocery bills with little changes in people’s health, compared to just eating mostly real food (which is generally the biggest benefit of any “diet” and why people see results in the first place).
Protein is back at the top of the nutrition priority list, and this time it seems to be in a healthy way. When you focus on protein for breakfast, you’ll feel fuller throughout the day and fuel your body with what it needs to maintain muscle mass.
If you want to live a long-term healthy lifestyle without fads, then develop healthy habits that you can stick to without being rigid about labeling your food. (This is commonly referred to as the 80/20 lifestyle, and it works!)
For example “I aim to eat 20-30 grams of protein in my first meal of the day, most days of the week” is a habit. “I can only eat it if it’s “paleo,” is a diet. Habits tend to have some flexibility, while diets are rigid and thus fail.
